See Around Britain is a charity that aims to offer individuals free information regarding a wide variety of and venues, ranging from Cafés to libraries, post offices, pharmacies, hospitals and surgeries, and tourist destinations. A specific focus is placed on the accessibility for disabled individuals, therefore providing crucial information that will allow potential visitors to make an informed decision about the suitability of a destination. This information is provided in the form of an online map, allowing visitors to plan their trip based on the information provided.
We rely on volunteers to keep our website up to date, and to add new venues.
Join us as a volunteer!
We have a number of volunteering opportunities, including Description Writers, Venue Photo Surveyors, Social Media ambassadors and Admin Support. Some roles you can do from the comfort of your home, some are more suited to those who enjoy being out and about visiting venues.
Who can volunteer with us? Anyone can – there is a volunteering role suitable for almost everyone, although you will need to be comfortable with IT and have access to the internet. You will need to be able to produce venue descriptions or other content in your own words, or produce your own photographs of venues. You will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated. All of these roles are available right now, and if you are considering becoming a volunteer we would be happy to discuss this with you.
What’s in it for you? Whether working on venue descriptions from home, or gathering photos or other information while visiting venues, you will be learning about your local area (and further afield if you like to travel), find new places to visit, and helping to make it easier for others to do the same. You will be practicing your IT skills, and if you like photography or even videography you will sharpening those skills as well.
If you are starting out in life you will be adding valuable detail to your CV, and if you are of a more mature outlook you will find this an enjoyable and relaxing way to spend your spare time.
By volunteering with us you would be making a positive difference to people’s lives, particularly those who may need to plan their visits to venues according to accessibility.

Volunteering Opportunities:
We currently have the following Volunteering Opportunities available. They can be done as stand-alone activities, or you can “mix and match” as you are able:
Volunteer Description Writer
The purpose of this role is to write informative descriptions of venues across Wales, which will then be uploaded to the online map found on the See Around Britain website and app. Volunteers will be given venues to work on and will be asked to conduct some online research, using the information they gain in order to fill in a simple template. This role can be performed from your home, and you can work individually or in teams if you prefer.
All you need is a computer of some kind, an internet connection and some spare time, along with the ability to conduct research online.
This stimulating work will let you travel and discover a wide range of venues from your armchair, but can also be conducted at the venues themselves if you prefer.
Volunteers must be self-motivated, understand the importance to avoid plagiarism and be computer literate. Although training will be provided where necessary, volunteers will need to have some proficiency in using search engines and will need to demonstrate the ability to utilise available information to create new venue descriptions.
This work can be done by anyone online in the UK, Ireland, and Europe. We have a number of volunteering opportunities available – some Volunteers may want to combine this role with photo surveying
Volunteer Photo/Video Surveyor
The purpose of this role is to visit venues in your chosen area, and to take a series of photographs highlighting various aspects of the venue, uploading them to the venue listing on the See Across Britain website/app.
A template is available listing the photographs required to complete a listing, and will typically include parking facilities, entrances, and accessibility for disabled individuals, how good the signage is both to, and at the venue, how easy it is to find and travel to, its main attractions, and important information for a wide range of sensual impairments, including hearing, learning, muscular and visual. The photographs, along with venue descriptions, allow potential visitors to make an informed decision about the suitability of a destination.
Since this role involves photography of venues, there is an element of travel. We are unable to reimburse travel costs, so this role is suitable for volunteers who already enjoy visiting venues in their spare time.
This work can be done by anyone online in the UK, Ireland, and Europe. We have a number of volunteering opportunities available – some Volunteers may want to combine this role with Description Writer.

This role required a high degree of focus, concentration and an eye for detail, a good level of grammar and spelling, along with the IT skills required to utilise spelling checkers and search engines.
This role can be performed remotely, by anyone with a suitable computer and internet access.
