West Wales Vipers Goalball Club trains once a month at Ysgol Bro Myrddin, Carmarthen. Goalball is a Paralympic sport for blind and visually impaired people. The West Wales team is doing extremely well. We played our first tournament in Oxford in September and won the gold medal!
We train on one Saturday a month and each session offers 5 hours of volunteering – volunteers help set up the court and build the goals, then help as a ‘goal judge’ during the training session (we would tell them what to do), and then help take down the goals and the court at the end of the session. And then there’s a free buffet at the end.
New players of all ages are also welcome, so if you know of anyone who is blind or visually impaired who would like to give it a go, they would be welcome to join us.
