I can help create a community nature trail
Hi, my name’s Carla and I’m a volunteer ambassador with Kidney Wales.
I’ve been doing that position now for, oh, a good two to three years.
I got involved because I myself had kidney failure and I wanted to give something back.
I wanted to raise some awareness.
I wanted to be part of something and while I was unable to work, I wanted to have that sense of purpose.
Volunteering for Kidney Wales has given me all of that.
I’ve done courses on public speaking, I’ve been able to deliver talks to lots and lots of groups of people, organisations raising awareness of the disease.
I’ve even delivered talks within the Senadd, which was exciting and helps to raise the profile of kidney disease and kidney Wales and the work they do.
I’m also part of a group of volunteer ambassadors and we meet monthly online.
But through that I’ve created some really great friendships.
As I say, it gave me a great sense of purpose.
Whilst I was unwell, it was I could put it on my CV.
So since having a transplant and feeling better, I’ve then been able to go on and demonstrate those skills and get back into the workplace.
So it’s given me so much.
I really enjoy being part of that team.
I really like raising awareness and I really like spreading the word and supporting other kidney patients out there.
I love my volunteering and despite now working, I’d never give it up.
Volunteering is a, is a great thing to do.
It makes you feel good, it gets you friends.
And I really encourage anyone who’s thinking about volunteering just to, to go ahead and do it.
And I fully support the “We Are With You” campaign.
Thanks.
