 Carmarthenshire Dementia Community Coalition

 people   power   progress

Are you a person living with dementia or caring for someone with dementia?

In a dementia-friendly community people will be aware of and understand dementia, so that people with dementia can continue to live in the way they want to and in the community they choose.

In Carmarthenshire we have 10 different communities and organisations that are working towards becoming Dementia Friendly.

Dyfed Powys Police , Mid and West Wales Fire & Rescue Service, Llandovery, Kidwelly, College of Human & Health Sciences, St David’s Park, Laugharne, St Clears & Whitland, Llandeilo & District, Delta Wellbeing, Llanelli and Carmarthen Town

In Carmarthenshire we have formed a coalition of dementia friendly communities and supporting representatives, to share good practice, help, support, look at “what’s working well” and identify areas where joint working could aid in funding and access any joint mapping, support for volunteers, advice, upskilling, training opportunities and greater community connections.

As part of this coalition, we have set up a “Task Force”, a group made up of people living with dementia, family, friends, and carers, they would have a Dementia Voice, in Carmarthenshire and able to have your say in how the community works and supports people living with dementia. As a member of the Task Force your thoughts and ideas would be welcomed and shared wider across Health, Social Care and Dementia Friendly Communities in Carmarthenshire. It would be useful if you have access to a computer and can engage digitally, but not essential, you can dip in and out, it will not be a strenuous group and you can finish as a member at any time.

Do you want to have a voice as someone who has been touched by dementia and know best how you access services in your community?

Have you ever come across difficulties in your community or accessing services, as either someone who lives with dementia or caring for someone living with dementia, and want to try and make a difference?

Do you have some good ideas on what it means to live with dementia that you would like to share to a wider audience?

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Dementia Task Force or want to know more, please contact me on 01269 830061 or susansmith@cccpartners.org.uk

The Carmarthenshire Dementia Coalition has produced a Dementia Padlet which is a directory of dementia services and wider support services in Carmarthenshire.
