Carmarthenshire Food Network Assistant

Through the Welsh Government Food Poverty Fund, distributed through Carmarthenshire County Council, CAVS applied for monies to employ a Carmarthenshire Food Network Assistant.
This seven-month position would build upon the newly formed foundations and support the network’s growth and development.

Augusta Lewis served this role between November 2021 and May 2022 and was integral in maintaining momentum, increasing interest and the network’s profile and underpinning the three tenets of Connect, Support and Share.

The following report exemplifies her achievements through this piece of work and also offers some insight into the county’s first steps into becoming a sustainable food place.

Augusta has been a real asset and we are pleased to announce her continuation with the network, as she moves into a new role with Social Farms & Gardens… it is all connected after all.

Thank you, Augusta.

Food Poverty Fund Final Report

This was a grant to help local authorities and third sector organisations to work together to tackle food poverty and food insecurity.

The purpose of the funding was to:

  • support community food organisations in the here and now to meet the needs of households living in food poverty
  • support communities to invest in initiatives that help tackle the root causes of food poverty and food insecurity and develop healthy, sustainable solutions which involve the communities that are affected
  • support an increased number of people facing food poverty by strengthening existing community food initiatives across each local authority including a focus on activity that helps to address the root causes of food poverty
  • encourage applications from organisations that want to work collaboratively, across county boundaries, to help maximise the impact of the funding. Local authorities are expected to work with local experts, including the third sector, who are already addressing food poverty and insecurity
  • encourage projects that will be in line with the Programme for government. Successful applications will support the well-being goals and principles that underpin the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015
  • provide funding for services which complement, those already provided by the public sector or third sector in Wales. Applicants will need to demonstrate in their application that there is a demonstrable need for this service or product.
