Llanedi Ward covers the old Parish of Llanedi including Tycroes, Llanedi, Hendy/Fforest and Talyclun in Carmarthenshire. We have a population of Apx 6000 (Tycroes*: 2,534, Hendy*: 3,302, Llanedi 250)

Hendy and Tycroes both have an industrial past, whilst Llanedi was a rural hamlet that housed the parish church. The Community Council is now mostly a dormitory area, which has seen some significant growth in housing stock in recent years.

  • The area is served by three primary schools.
  • The community is made up of three Super Output Areas (geographical areas used in calculating the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation):
    • Hendy 1 (which includes Llanedi and Fforest),
    • Hendy 2 (Hendy village and Talyclun) and Tycroes.
    • Hendy 1 is the least deprived ward in the County; whilst respectively, Tycroes is the 28th and Hendy 2 is the 42nd least deprived out of the 112 areas in Carmarthenshire. As such there are some pockets of deprivation.

The area, being semi-rural, also suffers from issues such as lack of services and isolation. This brings challenges and opportunities in terms of community cohesion. The Welsh language is very important to the community.

The community council was keen to work with CAVS to help create a better sense of community cohesion and empowerment. Each community hub was awarded part of a total allocation of £10,500 from the CAVS Local Action Hubs project to tackle forward initiatives that encouraged more opportunities for individuals to take part in community-led activities.
